About the tour
Art in the past was the main source of propaganda. That’s why since the Middle Ages churches and chapels and later beautiful noble palaces where adorned by paintings, tapestries and sculptures. Not just to show how wealthy a family was, but also to show who was with them and who wasn’t. To give to the public a clear message of power and alliances. The Uffizi building was actually commissioned by Grand Duke Cosimo I of the Medici family to his private architect Giorgio Vasari as his own office building. Cosimo I was the first that understood the power of propaganda trough art. To show to the public and politicians that he also had knowledge and good taste the top floor of the Uffizi was transformed into a Gallery where to display the amazing Medici Collection. Today the Uffizi Gallery hosts one of the most important painting collection in the world, a true journey trough the evolution of the Renaissance. From Giotto to Frà Beato Angelico, from Masaccio to Botticelli, to discover the only finished painting of Leonardo Da Vinci in Florence and of Michelangelo, to end with the dramatic style of Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileschi. A journey trough the rise and fall of the Renaissance.
Join me into this journey trough the main paintings who changed the concept of representing sacred images, realism and everyday life. Roughly 200 years of paintings in about 3 hours, one brush stroke at the time.
