1What is
Tuscany?  Where is Tuscany? Good questions…Tuscany, or as we say it “Toscana” is not just one the oldest region of Italy, where the Etruscans lived way before the Romans and where wine was first produced.  This is one of the most amazing part of Italy.  Tuscany is where you have the chance to endure a journey trough art, history and wine tasting!

Tuscany is Castelfalfi and Castelfalfi is Tuscany. 5

The Castelfalfi estate is a small, unknown gem between the province of Pisa and Siena.  It is an undiscovered heaven, rich in history and traditions, located in one of the best areas, few kilometers away from the main historical cities such as Florence, Siena, Lucca and Pisa.

Often I find myself on the way to visit Volterra or San Gimignano, departing from the city port of Livorno, where my family is from, and I was looking for the perfect place to stop during the journey to enjoy the local history and of course our local products, wine and extra-virgin olive oil…if coming form organic production even better…and all I was looking for I founded it in the Tenuta di Castelfalfi.

Over 22 hectares divided in between 9 different types of vineyards, from the typical Sangiovese grape used to produce some od the best local wine such as Poggio alla Fame (100%Sangiovese) to the famous “international grapes” introduced here in the 1960′s and blended here to produce exquisite wines such as San Piero IGT (75%Sangiovese-25%Merlot), Cerchiaia DOCG (85%Sangiovese-15%Merlot), Poggio Nero IGT (50%Cabernet Sauvignon-40%Merlot-10%Alicante).  The estate also produce a beautiful white wine, Poggio i Soli (100%Vermentino).  All can be tasted on location in one of the most beautiful wine cell I have seen.

The estate also offers you a luxury drive trough their vineyards on board of an air-conditioned mercedes van, the best way also to discover the estate and the ancient “borgo” formed by a castle founded at the time of the Longboards.

I am inviting you to stop and enjoy the estate.  For me is like inviting a good friend to my house, with a glass of wine of course! 2
